The Trust

The Fair Field Junior School Trust is the charitable company responsible for the running Fair Field Junior School (the Academy) and any future Academies that join. The Trust has control over the land and the other assets as well as being the employer. Academies have freedom from local authority control, which means they have autonomy over the decisions made and the education they deliver.

The Fair Field Junior School trust is a charitable company limited by guarantee and registered in England and Wales with company number 9434766.

Academies

Members are akin to the shareholders of a company. They have ultimate control over the Academy Trust, with the ability to appoint some of the trustees and the right to amend the Trust’s articles of association.

Steve Bowbrick

Steve is Digital Editor for BBC Radio 3, the Proms and the BBC Orchestras where he is responsible for online content and the development of web sites and social media. He has a background of leadership in digital businesses, having founded one of Britain’s first web design firms. He’s an experienced digital practitioner with expertise in web site design, social media, online marketing and content creation. Steve is one of three subscribing Members of the Trust and has been Fair Field Junior School’s Chair of Governors since 2008.

Ian Connon

Ian has been a governor at Fair Field Junior School for many years. He has over 30 years’ experience as an accountant and auditor and is currently Technical Director with a major firm of accountants. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and a member of the Institute’s Technical and Practical Auditing Committee. Ian’s two daughters are both former Fair Field pupils. Ian is one of the subscribing Members of our Academy Trust.

Andrew Gardiner

Andrew became a Parent Governor in 2009 and both his children were pupils at Fair Field. He is an Associate Director at Arup, an international design and engineering consultancy, and is a Chartered Fire Safety Engineer. In addition to his project work, he is responsible for resourcing projects, for implementation of the firm’s Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Management System and he holds an IOSH Managing Safety in Construction certificate. Andrew is a subscribing Member of the Trust and Chairs Fair Field’s Resources Committee (Governors).

Mary Button

Mary is a Parent Governor on the Standards & Curriculum Committee for Fair Field Junior school. Mary’s link subjects are Art and Sports/PE.  Currently, she has her own business caring for people’s animals as well as looking after her own children. Previously Mary was a nursing sister working within oncology. She also has a Diploma in Management Studies having worked in the leisure industry. She has been a member of the Parish Council and led on Highways Initiatives.

The Directors (also called Trustees) are responsible for the same three core governance functions performed by the Governing Body in a maintained school: (i) setting the direction, (ii) holding the Headteacher to account and (iii) ensuring financial probity. As charity trustees, they must also ensure that they are complying with charity law requirements.

Andrew Harvell

Andrew has been a Governor at Fair Field Junior School for 8 years. He has over 25 years experience in the Financial Services sector and currently consults on index design, quantitative research and technical analysis. He was previously Managing Director, Quantitative Research, FTSE Group and prior to that was a Quantitative Strategist at HSBC. He has also been a past chairman and president of Radlett and District Round Table and is married with two children, both of whom were former pupils at Fair Field. He is an Associate Member of both the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment, and The Society of Technical Analysts.

Paul Morse

Paul is a Parent Governor for Fair Field Junior School, Trustee for a small environmental charity (Association of London Environmental Health Managers – ALEHM) and a senior local government manager for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.  He has been responsible for leading predominately Environmental Services (Environmental Health, Highways, Leisure and Parts) but also Revenues and Benefits over his 40 year local government career.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is accountable for the allocation and monitoring of the funds for each of the Academies (currently one Academy – Fair Field Junior School). The Academies report their spending to the Finance Committee  throughout the year. Steve Bowbrick, Andrew Gardiner, Paul Morse and Andy Harvell are on the committee.

Audit Committee

Because we are a Multi-Academy Trust (though currently with only one Academy within it), we are required to have a separate Audit Committee. The function of the committee is to ensure compliance with Company and Charity Law, and to oversee and respond to Internal and External Audits. Any actions required are monitored by the Audit Committee. The committee is chaired by Ian Connon, with Steve Bowbrick, Andrew Gardiner, Paul Morse and Andy Harvell sitting.

Local Governing Body of Fair Field Junior School (LGB)

Fair Field Junior School’s (the Academy) own Governing Body is actually one of the Trust Committees. (If other schools join the Trust, each of the Governing Bodies will be listed here too.) Fair Field’s LGB is chaired by Steve Bowbrick with Andrew Gardiner as Vice-Chair. The Governors are Muriel Beaver, Mary Button, Ian Connon, Shilpa Shah, Andrew Harvell, Jenny Williams, Murali Thavasothy, Paul English and Paul Morse. The Clerk to the Governors is Dinah Tuck. The LGB has its own sub-committees too: Standards and Curriculum; Resources; Admissions; Complaints.
