Music
Vision
At Fair Field, we believe music is for everyone. Through a joyful, inclusive and inspiring curriculum, we nurture confident, creative and expressive musicians who develop a lifelong love of music. Rooted in the Sing Up approach, we place singing at the heart of musical learning, enabling every child to experience the joy of making music together.
Our carefully sequenced curriculum develops pupils’ understanding through singing, listening, composing, improvising and performing. Children build their knowledge of rhythm, pitch, pulse, tempo, dynamics and musical structure while exploring a diverse range of musical styles, traditions and cultures. Through practical, hands-on experiences, they learn to use their voices, tuned and untuned instruments and technology with increasing confidence and skill.
Music is a collaborative experience that promotes creativity, communication, resilience and self-expression. Every child is encouraged to take risks, perform with confidence and value both their own musical ideas and those of others. Progression is carefully planned so that all pupils, regardless of starting point, can achieve success and develop as independent musicians.
We enrich our curriculum through performances, choir, whole-class music-making, workshops and opportunities to engage with musicians and musical traditions from around the world, fostering a sense of community and cultural appreciation.
By the time they leave Fair Field, our pupils are confident, reflective and enthusiastic musicians who sing with expression, perform with increasing accuracy, create and improvise imaginatively, and listen with curiosity and understanding. They leave with the musical knowledge, skills and confidence to continue their musical journey and to appreciate the power of music to connect people, celebrate diversity and enrich their lives.
