Design and technology
Vision
At Fair Field, we aim to equip our pupils with the creative, technical, and practical skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. We believe Design & Technology is a vital subject that encourages innovation, problem-solving, and resilience. Through hands-on, purposeful projects, pupils learn to design, make, and evaluate products that solve real problems, using a range of tools, materials, and technologies.
Our curriculum aims to foster curiosity, imagination, and independence while helping pupils understand the impact of design and engineering on everyday life. By developing skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability, we aim to prepare our pupils to become confident, capable individuals who can contribute positively to the future world.
How we deliver Design and Technology at Fair Field
At Fair Field, we use the Kapow Primary scheme of work, which aligns with National Curriculum expectations and provides clear development and progression of skills across the key stage.
Pupils at Fair Field are given opportunities to engage in three key areas of development:
- Investigative, disassembly, and evaluative activities
- Focused practical tasks
- Design and make assignments
Our curriculum covers a variety of key areas:
- Mechanisms
- Electrical systems
- Cooking
- Textiles
- Digital World
- Nutrition
These areas provide real-life experiences where children can explore, create, apply, and problem-solve. Throughout each unit, pupils develop practical skills but also understand how to use these skills in the real world. Each unit includes teaching aids and visual instructions to support both skill development and student learning.
