Art

Vision

At Fair Field, we believe that art is an essential part of our curriculum - it is a powerful form of expression, exploration, and identity. We aim to ignite a lifelong passion for art, inspiring children to see themselves as artists with their own ideas, imagination, and unique creative voice.

Through an engaging and inclusive curriculum, we encourage every child to explore the world of art, to take creative risks, and to gain confidence in developing and expressing their own artistic style. We believe that all children are capable of creating meaningful art and should be given the opportunity to experiment, reflect, and celebrate their individuality through a wide range of artistic experiences.

We are committed to introducing children to a diverse range of artists, practices, and cultures, helping them understand that art is a global language that connects people and ideas across time and place.

Our goal is that every child leaves Fair Field with a love for art, a belief in their creative ability, and the confidence to see themselves as an artist.

How we teach Art at Fair Field Junior School

Our art curriculum is carefully designed to align with the National Curriculum while allowing for progression of skills across the Key Stage. It provides children with the time, tools, and inspiration they need to think and work like artists.

Our curriculum is built around three core areas:

  • Technique – Developing control, precision, and confidence in using a variety of tools and materials.
  • Creativity – Encouraging children to experiment, explore new possibilities, and develop their own artistic style.
  • Recording and Reflection – Using sketchbooks as a space to gather ideas, plan, evaluate, and revisit their artistic thinking.

We give children the opportunity to work with a range of mediums, including:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Sculpture
  • Collage
  • Digital Media
  • Printmaking

Each unit of work includes the study of an artist. These artists reflect the diversity of the world and demonstrate that there are many ways to create and interpret art. Above all, we want our pupils to feel the excitement of making something that is entirely their own — to explore their ideas deeply, respond to the world around them, and take pride in the work they create.
