Vision

At Fair Field, we aim to develop thoughtful, open-minded pupils who are equipped to engage with the diverse beliefs and worldviews that shape our communities and the wider world. We believe Religion and Worldviews is a vital subject that encourages curiosity, reflection, and respect for others.

Through meaningful discussions and the exploration of big questions, pupils learn about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews locally, nationally, and globally. They develop the knowledge and skills to make connections, challenge assumptions, and appreciate perspectives that differ from their own.

Our curriculum aims to foster understanding, empathy, and personal growth. By reflecting on their own beliefs and values, and exploring how worldviews influence individuals and societies, pupils build critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills.

We aim to prepare our pupils to become respectful, informed individuals who can navigate an increasingly diverse world with confidence and compassion.

How We Teach Religion and Worldviews at Fair Field

At Fair Field, we use the Kapow Primary scheme of work to deliver a rich and engaging Religion and Worldviews curriculum. It aligns with national guidance and reflects the recommendations of the Ofsted Research Review (May 2021), ensuring clear progression of knowledge and understanding across Key Stage 2.

Our curriculum is built around three key strands that run through every unit:

  • Substantive Knowledge – focusing on key concepts and worldviews, helping pupils build a deep understanding of religion and belief systems.
  • Disciplinary Knowledge – teaching pupils how to think about religion through different academic lenses (e.g. theology, philosophy, and social sciences).
  • Personal Knowledge – encouraging pupils to reflect on their own perspectives, preconceptions, and developing worldviews.

These strands are interwoven throughout the curriculum to help children build a well-rounded understanding of religion and worldviews. Lessons are designed to be varied, engaging, and thought-provoking, allowing pupils to explore big ideas through discussion, reflection, and hands-on activities.

Our curriculum follows a spiral model, meaning key ideas and concepts are revisited over time in different contexts. This helps pupils deepen their understanding as they progress through the school, making meaningful links across different religions and worldviews.

Each unit is guided by an overarching ‘big question’, such as:

  • Why are we here?
  • What is religion?
  • How can worldviews be expressed?
  • How do worldviews affect our daily lives?
  • How can we live together in harmony if we have different worldviews?

In addition to these, every unit includes a focused enquiry question that helps frame the learning and allows pupils to explore the topic in depth. Through these questions, pupils are encouraged to make comparisons, identify patterns, and reflect on their own views and experiences.

By participating in activities that develop both disciplinary and substantive knowledge, pupils at Fair Field gain a rich understanding of the diverse religious and non-religious worldviews that shape our world today. Our approach helps them to grow as respectful, reflective, and informed individuals.
